Investigating The Rate Of The Red Water - 1742 Words
The aim of this experiment is to observe and record the rate of the blue water in the dialysis tube diffusing into the beaker containing different concentrations of salt over 20 minutes to see what effect the concentrations of salt has on the rate of diffusion. The hypothesized of this experiment is that the blue water in dialysis tube 3 will have a faster rate of blue dye diffusing into the salt water in beaker 3. Beaker 1 will have the slowest rate of blue dye diffusing from the dialysis tube into the salt water and beaker 2 will result in a colour in-between beaker 1 and 3. This is because the concentration of salt in the beaker is higher than the water in the dialysis tubes so the salt water will go into the dialysis tube while the blue water in the dialysis tube will diffusion into the beaker. This experiment was performed by measuring out the same amount of water into each of the 3 beakers and adding different amounts of salt to each one to change the concentration. 3 dialysis tubes containing water and 3 drops of blue dye were tied at one end, then tied at the other using cotton thread before placing them one each into the different concentrated beaker cotton tied end facing down. After 20 minutes the results were observed and recorded into the results table. The finishing results were unexpected and not accurate due to the systematic and random errors, rejecting the hypothesis. The Seismic Behavior Of Multistory Frame Structures
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 INTRODUCTION The seismic behavior of multistory frame structures has been studied extensively in the last few decades due to their efficiency as earthquake resisting systems. The multistory framed systems can be categorized as reinforced concrete (RC) frames, masonry-inï ¬ lled frames, and wall-frame system. The literature survey in this chapter highlights some of the previous experimental and analytical Work done on the seismic performance of existing and rehabilitated structures. The survey covers retrofitting and analytical models of different structural systems, namely: RC frame structures, RC structural Walls, FRP confined beams and columns, rehabilitated frames using FRP bracings, rehabilitated frames using steel bracing and masonry-inï ¬ lled frames. 2.2 NONLINEAR MODELS Several analytical models for the non-linear analysis of reinforced concrete structural components have been proposed. These range from very refined and complex finite element models (N go and Scordelis I967) to simplified macro-models (Chen and Powell 1982, Lai et al, 1984, Powell and Campbell 1994, Pctrangeli et al. l999). Refined analytical models are typically used in predicting the response of small structures or structural subassemblies. The use of refined finite element models in non-linear static, cyclic and dynamic response of reinforced concrete frames is complex, time consuming and may not be practical. Annotated Bibliography Of Yeats B William Poems English Literature Essay Free Essays
The importance of this book is that it contains some of the plants of poesy which were carried out by William Yeats. Arguably, the most outstanding characteristic in the book is the effort at portraying the displacement that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his plants are arranged about chronologically to underline this point of view. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, resuscitating Rosicrucian symbols and fables are the most frontal. We will write a custom essay sample on Annotated Bibliography Of Yeats B William Poems English Literature Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now These are followed up by plants which show the displacement off from lavish romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory beats such as ââ¬Å" I will originate and goaÃâ à ¦ and travel to Innisfree â⬠. The same is seen in the wordss, ââ¬Å" as passionate and cold as the morning â⬠. The same plants discussed supra, seem to hold been compiled to demo the multiplicity of poetic functions that Yeats plays in the book. For case, in the verse forms, A Poet to His Beloved â⬠and, ââ¬Å" When you are old â⬠Yeats is seen as a lover. In Yeats ââ¬Ë work of 1931 titled, ââ¬Å" The Remorse and Interpretation of Speech â⬠, he comes out as a combative and grim poet of the human scruples. His grim nature is seen in the line, ââ¬Å" I carried from my female parent ââ¬Ës uterus, a overzealous bosom. â⬠That Yeats explores the different sides of himself is a affair which is good underscored in this book which is a myriad of aggregations. The verse forms so, as already mentioned, are diverse in subject and nature. Some of the verse forms appear spiritualistic, occultist while others appear to be clannish. Therefore, the book is non merely an interesting read in this work on the history that it contains a aggregation of Yeats ââ¬Ë poetic plants, bu t besides because it depicts him as a adult male of many chapeaus, holding many Scopess on life affairs, every bit far as these verse forms are concerned. Yeats, B. William. ââ¬Å" Among school kids. â⬠The Norton Anthology of Poetry. New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This verse form was published in 1927 and comes out as a signifier of speculation. The verse form is rich in its range as it covers assorted subjects runing from kids, to human behaviour, life in the twentieth century, the doctrine on life and life after decease, among others. This verse form is an eight-lined stanza which is to a great extent loaded with rimes and the usage of matter-of-fact linguistic communication. The verse form has been written within the context of a visitant who has walked into a schoolroom under the counsel of a sort aged nun. The importance of this verse form to this reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to determine the civil society, advancement and modernness, as opposed to the position quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this verse form to this reading is besides seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the verse form implicates the talker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a verse form which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the point of view of a more peaceable and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the verse form is besides instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats ââ¬Ë political orientation and propensities. Therefore, the many qualities Yeats had and the many Fieldss he operated in, in footings of calling are good confirmed by this verse form. The verse form has philosophical value to it. This is seen in the point where Yeats debates within himself whether or non he was destined to fall in love with the school instructor and thereby allowing readers on the philosophical argument on whether it is adult male who is acted upon, or it is adult male who acts. Yeats, B. William. A Vision. New York: Macmillan Press, 1956. This work of poesy was authored and late on, published in 1956. In it, Yeats reveals his cosmology ( or worldview ) and the belief in the supernatural. This stuff remains really utile to the reading, given that in it, the controversial nature of Yeats is made known. It is against this the ââ¬Ëserviceable lunacy ââ¬Ë which was attributed to him, are made known. In A Vision, Yeats seems to be diverting from the norms of his poesy. It is against this background that most analysts have described A Vision as an oddness. A Vision is said to capture the world and kineticss which characterized the 1920s, and such, is said to hold been written against the background of the thoughts of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud which were continually doing inroads into the societal mainstream. A Vision is therefore seen to be antithetical to the disbelieving ideals which were being advanced by Marx and Freud. Therefore, it can be said that A Vision has been written in contrast to the development that had been taking topographic point at the beginning of the twentieth century. This is much seen to be true, courtesy of the mentioning of preternaturally divine cosmology in the verse form. There are elements in the verse form which are opposed to reason, equality, psychological science and the belief in advancement. Mythical, metaphorical elements, analogies and the usage of symbols and images to a great extent color the poetic work herein. Yeats, B. William and Jonathan, Allison. William Butler Yeats. 2003. This book is relevant to the survey, given that in it, the plants of Yeats are good disclosed. The book comes as a co-authorship of Yeats himself and Jonathan Allison. The book remains indispensible, given that it contains autobiography on Yeats ââ¬Ë life. The importance of this value to the reader is non merely based on the fact that it helps scholars get acquainted with the life and times of Yeats, but besides on the fact that the reader is able to grok widely, the verse forms that Yeats had penned down. This is because, like all others, all the verse forms that have been jotted down have been written within the historical context. At the same clip, the proviso of inside informations on Yeats ââ¬Ë life is instrumental in understanding the verse form since the thoughts that Yeats was conveying in poesy, had all been underpinned by his experiences and penchants, with these experiences earnestly determining his range and worldview. Second, the verse forms that are in this aggreg ation besides make the book a worthy reading. Yeats, B. William. The Autobiography of William Butler Yeats. New York: Collier Books. This book remains really of import, given that it provides an luxuriant history on the life and times of Yeats. The history of Yeats as a adult male born on June 13th, 1865 in Dublin County of Ireland, Sandymount small town, the blue background of Yeats is huffy good known. It is against this background one is able to larn of the birth, travels and experiences. The gravitation of the autobiography above is that it helps in the apprehension of Yeats ââ¬Ë plants, but besides in understanding the existent motive behind the countless plants of poesy that Yeats penned down. For case, in the verse form, ââ¬Å" A Prayer for My Son â⬠, one is able to derive its greater apprehension, on cognizing the fact Yeats ââ¬Ë boy was born on August 22nd, 1921, and that hence, this was a supplication that Yeats made for his boy, Michael. The same instance applies to the verse form, ââ¬Å" A Prayer for My Daughter â⬠which was written by Yeats to his girl Anne who was born in 1919. In about the same vena, one would derive great understanding on verse forms such as ââ¬Å" A Man Young and Old â⬠, when the reader appreciates the nature of the relationship that William Yeats had with Maud Gonne who was at the clip of their meeting, a 23 twelvemonth old fervent patriot and inheritress. Yeats, B. William. Poetry for Young People. Sterling Press ; August 28, 2002. This is a little volume, as an anthology of verse forms which is meant for the vernal audience. Alongside the verse forms, are commentaries which have besides been accompanied by images. The same has been to help in nurturing involvement and apprehension. This is of great importance, given that most of the immature people do non read Yeats, despite holding gone through the early classs which teach poesy. The importance of this aggregation is that it is a pudding stone of verse forms which are merriment to read. Give the interesting nature of the verse forms, discoursing the verse form among the immature becomes easy. The same picturesque and explanatory accounts have been presented to assist the instructor interact easy with his students in the poesy category. The same feature of the book helps parents and even grandparents read to their kids, and to present them ( the kids ) to the linguistic communication of poesy. The importance of this anthology is that it shows the cunning with which Yeats is able to utilize linguistic communication depending on context. For case, herein, it is obvious that Yeats descends from his complex buildings which are meant for more mature audience, to utilize simpler buildings for the younger audience. Indeed, the ability to alter the strength and grade of linguistic communication to accommodate the demands of an audience is one of the shots of adroitness and command over linguistic communication and literary devices and manners. Yeats, B. William. Yeats ââ¬Ë Poetry, Drama and Prose. New York: W. W. Norton A ; Company, March 3, 2000. Ed. 1. This book is a aggregation of the poesy, play and essays that have been written by Yeats. Vox Populi Media and Popular Culture Essay Example For Students
Vox Populi Media and Popular Culture Essay An ever-changing phenomenon, reflecting what shapes the very community we live in, popular culture is what has (and will forever continue) to define every generation of society. Mullets, tie-dye, disco, go-go boots, rap, plaid, the Beatles, Britney Spears, nerd à glasses ââ¬Å" just a few societal trends that have come and gone throughout the years. Some stuff stuck, and some, well, no one wants to remember anymore. ART The Egyptians were one of the first civilizations to portray human beings as a stone-idealized form of art. Although for more spiritual purposes, they created the basis for art to exist as a vital part of culture, as a major form of expression. Today, art is seen in numerous, varied types ââ¬Å" traditional paintings, sculptures, installations, graffiti, and even the unconventional, tattooing, which fascinates me most. The creation of art on our mortal vessels amazes me. Enduring the pricking and poking to make yourself a canvas. Art has played the most pivotal role in my life. Growing up, I somehow always managed to surround myself with art. A print of Salvadore Dalis (my favourite artist) Les Elephants brought about my interest in art. It has been hanging in my room from the before I was born. Only 3 years old, I kept copying the piece, trying to make its replica (in vain, till date). Although art is still very much an underrated, not as mainstream form and part of culture, different types of it, like Anime, Manga, comic books are pretty popular between the masses. Till date, we cannot decide whether the purpose of art is to glorify humans or make him insignificant, but all we can do is enjoy and appreciate the exasperatingly carrying forms of it! MUSIC Music and culture have a correlation like no other. Music is a distinct, diverse subculture within a culture. Each musical era is extremely different and offers its own uniqueness in traits and values. Be it rap, or electronic music, music expresses both the time and a personal, intimate view into a persons personality. The best part about todays society when it comes to music is that you can find every type of music being listened to by different people. Some prefer classical, some jazz, etc. Me, however, Ive been brought up listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Guns ÃÅ"n Roses, Queen, and many more of the classic rock bands there were. My father had an insurmountable music collection, complete with vinyls of all the possible rock bands you can think of. It stuck with me, and is something Im defined by and proud of. MEDIA Mass media and popular culture go hand in hand. The population is bombarded with popular culture by television, radio, advertisement, internet and every other imaginable form to help us determine our views of society. Personally, social media has never interested me much. The incredibly popular Facbook and Twitter, was fun for a while initially, but then got absolutely monotonous for me to keep such a close tab on them. Albeit I spend a lot of time on the internet, but it in no way controls me, like it does to so many others. I honestly think Im one of the few people who still listen to the radio. It really is such an impressive feat to be able to hold the attention of people solely with the sound of your voice! Media today, including television and the internet especially, holds utmost power of influence. CULTURE Our popular culture is vox populi, fickle and consistent with change. The ideas never seem to die out. Sometimes for the better, but sometimes for a stupid excuse to say YOLO

Implementing the War Measures Act and sending troops into Quebec
Introduction FLQ group has existed in Canada for several years. In October, FLQ was linked in kidnapping Mr. James Cross, a British trade minister for Canada in his Westmount home, some days later; they abducted Mr. Pierre Laporte, the Quebec minister for labor. Prior to these kidnaps, the law enforcers in Quebec had collected secret information on the groupââ¬â¢s unaccomplished activities in the region.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Implementing the War Measures Act and sending troops into Quebec specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The law enforcerââ¬â¢s reveals that the group was in the middle of executing a kidnap mission on Israel and American diplomatic missions in Montreal (Pike). These criminal actions associated with FLQ group suggest that if left unchecked, Quebec is likely to plunge into a lawlessness region in the country. The Prime Minister is alarmed by these criminal activities of the group. He nce, as a member of his cabinet, he has informed me to give suggestions whether the cabinet can implement War Measures Act and send troops to Quebec to thwart the organizationââ¬â¢s criminal activities. In this memo, I outline several reasons why the Prime Minister should implement the War Measures Act so that the FLQ criminal activities can be prevented. I believe that once implemented, the Act will help restore calm, renew Canadians confidence and prevent future occurrences of similar criminal activities, not only in Quebec but also in the rest of the country. Why War Measures Act and sending troops to Quebec is justified I believe the Prime Minister should implement the War Measures Act to help restore calm and return the rule of law in Quebec province. The act is critical because it will allow the Federal government to renew the confidence of the Canadian people (Fisher). The Act, besides dealing directly with the FLQ group, it will also help repress other criminal groups in the province that are involved in lawlessness activities. Similarly, Jenish indicates that the Act will confer powers to the police and the army to search, detain and arrest individuals (leaders) commanding the terror group (Jenish). This will eventually weaken the groupââ¬â¢s participation in terror activities and restore peace and stability in Quebec. Also, by implementing the War Measures Act, the law will prevent repeat of similar crisis in the future. Jenish claims that kidnapping diplomatic and government officials are acts of treason; it tarnishes the integrity of the host country. Besides, the criminals may utilize the gaps available in the law to commit more crime. Thus, the cabinet initiative to support Prime Ministerââ¬â¢s direction will help deter the group from destabilizing the region in the future (Jenish).Advertising Looking for essay on government? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The historical backgroun d of FLQ is rooted in its quest to have a pro-independence state. Thus, Borovoy (110) claims that at some point in Quebec history, the group wanted to make Quebec a sovereign state specifically for English speaking Canadians (Borovoy, 110). To reinforce their threats, they used violence and enhanced unlawful practices in the province. Owing to their criminal history, I believe that by implementing the War Measures Act, the province will liberate itself from the criminal activities of this group. Why the War Measures Act, and sending troops to Quebec is not a solution Despite the War Measures Act being significant in restoring peace and calm in the region, I feel its implementation by the Prime Minister will have negative impact on the population living in Quebec province. This is because the War Measures Act will inspire fear in the population. Similarly, the Act will empower the police and the army, making them target innocent people through a mistaken identity (Borovoy, 119). Thus , the War Measures Act will create more unrest leading to non -cooperation between the citizens and the authority in regard to provision of vital information. Also, Là ©vesque (167) cites that the War Measures Act is meant to be implemented when Canada is facing imminent threat or aggression from other nations. Thus, in this context, Canada is not at war with any country. Therefore, by implementing the Act, the Prime Minister will be seen as a misusing his powers as provided in the Canadian constitution (Là ©vesque, 165). It is also feared that by implementing the Act, the cabinet will be tramping on the Civil Rights of its people (Tetley, 98). This is because the War Measures Act allows police and the army to use use force when conducting search in residential places. Similarly, Vault and William (113) indicates that the Act empowers the police and the army to carry out unjustified arrests without giving explanations. Moreover, Vault and William (115) also indicate the Act gives law enforcers powers to expel or exclude individuals when suspected as members of illegal organization. Hence, the Act will be exploited by the police and the army to suppress the rights of ordinary people. Besides these arguments, Vault and William (112) also point out that the law will not distinguish the FLQ members and other innocent groups/organizations; hence, this justification will complicate its smooth application in the province. Moreover, Vault and William (109) allege that more issues will arise as a result of implementing the War Measures Act. He opines that ââ¬Å"in tumultuous times, it is easy for a person to create speculative thoughtsâ⬠(Vault and William, 109). This is done in order to gain a mileage in politics.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Implementing the War Measures Act and sending troops into Quebec specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In this case, I believe that the Canadians will view the Prime Minister benefiting from the law. Similarly, Tetley (131) points out that the Prime Ministerââ¬â¢s government will be viewed as obstructing nationalism and quelling separatism as advocated by the FLQ in some of their demand. Conclusion The activities of FLQ need to be condemned by all peace lovers. The wicked acts they have committed such as kidnapping innocent people should not be tolerated. They should use official avenues to voice their concerns. Hence, having a hidden agenda and expressing it through acts of terror and violence is not the best way to do. As a member of the Prime Ministerââ¬â¢s cabinet, I support the government decision of implementing War Measures Act. I believe when this Act is implemented a clear and swift action will taken against the FLQ group. The Prime ministerââ¬â¢s government will be able to contain the group quickly before its criminal activities spread across the country. By implementing the War Measures Act in Quebec, the Feder al government will help renew the Canadian confidence in matters of their security and protection. This is because the role of the government is to protect its people. Also, the Act will confer powers to the army and police to search and detain individuals spearheading unrests in the province. This will ultimately contribute to peace and stability in the region. Moreover, the War Measures Act will prevent future repeat of similar crisis. This is because individuals and other groups will fear being caught on the wrong side of the law. Also, by assessing the groupââ¬â¢s historical roots, we can deduce that it is linked to history of violence. This fact, therefore, reinforces the assertion that the Prime Minister should move ahead and implement the Act. If not implemented, the province will continue to witness a series of violence (Là ©vesque, 249). On the other hand, by implementing the Act, and ultimately sending troops to Quebec, the local people will live in fear. This is becau se the army and the police will use brutal approach in their attempt of flushing out FLQ members and fail to recognize the real culprits. Moreover, the Act is only meant to be implemented when Canada is facing external threat or aggression from other nations. Thus, in this context, Canada is not at war; hence, the Prime Minister will be misusing his powers while attempting to implement it. I would suggest that the Prime Minister should search for alternate strategies of containing the activities of this group rather than using the War Measures Act.Advertising Looking for essay on government? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Lastly, the Act will create adverse effect on the citizens of the province. This is because it will withdraw their civil rights such as right of expression, movement, speech and association among others. And when these fundamental freedoms are taken away from the people, it is likely that more people will be motivated to join this group or other groups as a way of illustrating their anger. Besides, people will view the government has unfriendly to them and possibly fail to involve actively in its activities. During the late seventeen hundreds, many tumultuous events resulted in Colonial opposition to Great Britain. The conditions of rights of the colonists will slowly be changed as the constriction of the parliament becomes more and more intolerable. During the Seven Years' War England was not only alarmed by the colonists' insistence on trading with the enemy, but also with Boston merchants hiring James Otis inorder to protest the legality of the writs of assistance (general search warrants) used to hunt out smuggled goods. "let the parliament lay what burthens they please on us, we must, it is our duty to submit and patiently bear them, till they will be pleased to relieve us....". This is a very strong dictum, that in 1764, the colonists were of a submissive nature, and were weakly pleading for self-autonomy. This small fire of anger will become a huge conflagration as the rights are slowly rescinded. On October 19, 1765 the Stamp Act Congress and Parliamentary Taxation committee's passed some laws that attempted to strengthen the grip of the English crown. "I.That his Majesty's subjects in these colonies, owe the same allegiance to the Crown of Great Britain that is owing from his subjects born within the realm, and all due subordination to that august body, the Parliament of Great Britain." This statement can be used as a summation of the entire document that the Stamp Act Congress had initiated. The statement depicts the colonists has having to be submissive and servile in the view of Great Britain, this policy angered the colonists very much, and was another component of the transition of the colonists' When the Declatory Act was passed in March of 1766, many colonies were attempting to claim that they were "seceding" from "Whereas several of the houses of representatives in his Majesty's colonies and plantations in America, have of late,
